One Year Ago, It Felt Impossible

A year ago, the idea of launching our own online radio station was a crazy dream, let alone developing a fully working, feature-complete OzInDi Radio Australia app . We were running a lean online station from Cairns, hoping people might stumble across our stream and fall in love with Aussie indie music. Building a platform that could stand up to the way people consume radio in 2025? That was “someday stuff.”

Now, here we are — August 25, 2025 — and our app is not only real, it’s ready for you to try. We’re opening the doors to the public beta, letting listeners, artists, and the indie community be the first to experience it. And the timing couldn’t be more perfect: BIGSOUND 2025 is around the corner, and we can’t wait to show the music world what we’ve built.

Different to Any Radio Before

Here’s the thing: this isn’t just a radio app. We didn’t want to build “Spotify-lite” or a glorified online tuner. OzInDi has always been about doing things differently — about tearing down the walls that have blocked independent artists from discovery for too long.

Traditional radio has always been about gatekeepers: program directors, label politics, big advertising dollars. If you weren’t in the right circle, your music might never be heard. But with OzInDi, we’re using digital platforms to break that wall down completely. Now, if you’re an emerging artist making incredible music in your bedroom in Cairns, Fremantle, or Hobart, you can be discovered right alongside established acts — not in ten years, but today.

That philosophy is baked into the app. Every feature has been built to make discovery seamless — not just for listeners, but for the artists themselves.

The Journey That Got Us Here

Reaching this point hasn’t been easy. The past year has been a blur — just a couple of guys with a passion for radio, a shoestring budget, and a community that believed in us. At times, we had to keep the faith that what we were doing was worth it. But since we left the binds of community radio, we realised we needed a more flexible platform where we could concentrate on the one thing we loved. Australian emerging artists.

But every artist we interviewed, every live session we recorded, and every listener who tuned in gave us fuel. The interviews especially have been highlights — we’ve sat down with emerging indie gems, regional heroes, and nationally touring acts, giving them a platform to tell their stories. Each conversation reminded us why this app mattered: because music discovery shouldn’t be locked behind industry walls.

Achievements like launching our OzInDi HQ live session videos, curating the QLD OzInDi 50 Countdown, and even securing a spot to head to Byron Bay for the Regional And Remote Music Conference, we have come along way since June last year.

BIGSOUND 2025: The Perfect Stage

So why now? Because BIGSOUND 2025 is the perfect stage. Last year, we turned up with a stream and a dream. This year, we’re arriving with a fully featured app, a thriving station, and a growing reputation as champions of independent music.

We’ll be at BIGSOUND not just covering artists but also showing the industry how OzInDi is changing the game. We’ll be demoing the app, hyping the Hypechain Top 10, and letting artists know they can finally count on a platform where their music gets heard, saved, and shared instantly.

In a festival that’s all about discovery, OzInDi is bringing a tool that makes that discovery permanent.
