Big Sound 2024 Podcast - Holly Hebe
Barry Koch has been a dynamic force in the music industry for 20 years, deeply embedded in the local Far North Queensland scene. As a passionate metal musician, Barry made his mark with powerful performances with heavy metal band Locotus during the early to mid 2000’s which led to Barry creating Far North Qld’s first heavy metal dedicated music festival Metal Tanks in 2003. His talents extended beyond music, as he became a respected article writer for The Barfly Community Newspaper, where he highlighted local talent and industry trends. Additionally, Barry’s voice became well-known through his role as a presenter for local Cairns community radio stations, and together with Joel Devereux hosted the hugely successful FNQ Originals and biggest Boxing Day Countdown, “NQ Ultimate Top 50”.
Recognizing the limitations of current community radio, Barry teamed up with Joel Devereux to create OzInDi Radio Australia, a platform dedicated to supporting independent Australian artists. Together, they previously hosted FNQ Originals, North Queensland’s biggest community radio show for three years. Through FNQ Originals, Barry and Joel played a crucial role in supporting regional musicians, providing them with a platform to share their music and grow their audience. Barry continues to champion the local music scene through his work at OzInDi Radio Australia.
